Thank you for your interest in the Roughing It Foundation and in helping to send deserving children to Roughing It Day Camp and other high quality summer camp programs.  The Roughing It Foundation has been formed to raise funds for the very specific purpose of sending children to camp programs in Northern California who would not normally have the opportunity to attend long term, independently operated summer camps. 

The Roughing It Foundations specifically strives to send children from diverse ethnic backgrounds and children with physical/mental disabilities, who could otherwise not afford to attend camp, to qualified camps. The vast majority of funds raised will be used to send campers to camp programs.  Donors may also designate funds to be used in support of a specific support programs at qualified  camps and foundation funds may be used to support such projects.  Support projects include such things as specialized staff training, specialized camp activities or specialized camp staff that would not normally be available to the selected camp.

Programs:

The Roughing It Foundation supports sending kids to camp in two different ways. 

• Camperships:  Campers will be funded to a session of long-term camp or other independently owned and operated camps. Campers will be screened and selected by a variety of youth serving organizations including: Contra Costa Volunteer Services, Catholic Charities, East Bay Regional Parks Campership Program, Kids to Camp and the Enzie Foundation.  Priority will be given the campers from populations not normally served by independently owned and operated camps and especially children of color and children with special needs. 
• Staff Support:  Individuals may donate money to fund additional staff at Roughing It to provide specialized support services to campers from diverse backgrounds.  Anticipated staff to be funded are: Special Education Coordinator, Family Liaison Specialist and Training Specialists.
